Wet Sans Brolly to release new (old) album Love Songs for Giants

It began as an experiment. In January 2009, while preparing for the launch of their first full-length album Cornfed Humans, Wet Sans Brolly decided to begin releasing a new song every month to their small but loyal fan base. An exhaustive year of feverish songwriting, last-minute recording, late-night mixing, and nearly-missed deadlines ensued, threatening to bring an end to the band by the start of 2010. The resulting twelve songs sat collecting virtual dust on a handful of computers and iPods around the world for over a year as the band recuperated, began working on new material, and tried to put the whole ordeal out of their minds.

Finally in early 2011, they dusted off the tracks and began “George-Lucasing” them – making revisions here and there to things that probably didn’t need revised, but resulted in a better representation of their original vision. Some notes were moved, some words re-sung, some instruments turned down.

The updated album sounds different, yet the same. New, yet familiar. The original hodgepodge of twelve songs has been painstakingly re-sequenced to create a continuous flow of music, re-mixed to expose more musical nooks and crannies, and re-mastered into to a balanced and cohesive statement.

Love Songs for Giants will be released on compact disc and in digital formats on November 1st, 2011 and will be available at wetsansbrolly.com, iTunes, Amazon, and other digital retailers.  It can be pre-ordered here

Howdy.

First of all, this site was hacked and infected with a virus for a while.  We’re terribly sorry and hope it didn’t have any adverse affects on any of you.  I feel kind of like my flat was broken in to – sort of creepy.  Would like to thank Dave at Saratoga Hosting for staying up all night to investigate and fix the problem – WAY above and beyond the call of duty.

We are sitting on a large pile of music to be released.  I feel fairly confident in saying that the LSFG Volume I album will finally be properly released in the second quarter of 2011 (late spring/early summer) possibly renamed as not to be confusing with the fan club, we’ll see.

Also, while everyone was messing about this year, I wrote a solo record which I’m quite pleased with – however, everyone in the band ended up playing on it and contributing in varying capacities, so I think we might just release it as a WSB record, since it basically turned out to be just that.  It’s a bit on the short side, so we’ve discussed adding a few more tunes to it – we’ll see.  Look for that late in the year…

Anyway, sorry that the monthly song idea fell apart – but I am SOOOO pleased with how the new stuff sounds.  I don’t do well with a ticking clock…

Dear friends,

We’re having a bit of an ongoing rough patch.  Music is still being made.  At some point you will hear it and we will all be happy.  I’m fairly certain we’re over-thinking things, but I’m also fairly certain there’s a bit too much under-thinking in music these days, so it all evens out in the end…

The song that was intended to be 2.3 (with the floor piano and melodica videos) has been put to bed.  It may be woken up in the future, but for now, we’re all glad to see it die.  The fact that we’ve been working it for six months is not an indicator of it’s brilliance, or it’s suckage.  It has simply served as the arena in which we’ve battled with our muses, our ideals, and each other.

I’m happy to say that since our inception (great film btw) we have not put out any music that we were not 100% proud of.  The struggle comes from trying to maintain that record when our collective standards and expectations continue to rise.  Our goal is to feel like every song we release is the best song we’ve ever done – which can be quite difficult and frustrating at times.  I think the days of releasing a song every month are unfortunately over, but we still enjoy LSFG as a way to connect with fans and will continue to release music and conduct experiments through this venue. A new song is coming – it really is – but it can’t be finished until it’s finished.  Thanks for your patience.

E.
